What’s in a Word?
As I am integrating along my path, I become increasingly
aware of words, what they mean and my intent when I
communicate. Basically I am becoming
conscious of how I speak.
For instance, I was looking for a beneficial word to signal both
an end to a piece I’ve written and to invoke a sense of goodwill and love
towards the reader and the Universe at large.
Such as “Namaste, N'laksh, Blessings”. I feel insincere using some words and I wanted to choose words
deliberately.
After looking and testing some words I decided on
“Blessings”. It felt good. That was before I looked it up. Now I have an internal dilemma.
Origin:
Old English blēdsian, blētsian,
based on blōd ‘blood’ (i.e., originally perhaps ‘mark or consecrate with
blood’). The meaning was influenced by its being used to translate Latin benedicere
‘to praise, worship,’ and later by association with bliss.
(blessing)
This kind of concerned me.
Was my intent to say everything as an invocation consecrated with
blood? I don’t think so…
Is my intention, at this moment in time, stronger than my
perception of the power of this word either its origin or its typical
connotation? Until I can spend
sufficient time to discern what this all means to me…
Hmmmm…..
My intention in using the word is at the heart of it all. I want to
convey love. That love is interpreted by
each individual.
But all this started me really thinking about how much our language influences us and how much our language is infused with multiple meanings and hidden meanings.
The lyrics to Stairway to Heaven never rang truer to me than now:
But all this started me really thinking about how much our language influences us and how much our language is infused with multiple meanings and hidden meanings.
The lyrics to Stairway to Heaven never rang truer to me than now:
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
Though I would suggest words can have even more than two meanings....
When I realized that love is my strongest intent in everything I am, I decided I wanted to create something to represent this.
I'm not much of an artiste but I really like hearts and I really like the word Love. So, I just kind of put this together for this piece and I continue seeking, searching, figuring it all out.
